We had all been looking forward to this trip down south since it was planned and, as always, we had a ball not only on the track but with all the people involved with speedway at Ruapuna and Ashburton. The weather looked menacing everyday but somehow we manged to get the races through in between the rain showers.

The atmosphere was definitely more relaxed at Western Springs on Saturday with a lot of the international drivers having gone home except for 10USA Ricky Logan and a slightly smaller crowd.  However the racing was still intense with everyone wanting to win the feature race and be the Auckland champ.

We all turned up early on Friday afternoon ready to contest the first part of the champs which was to qualify, only to be beaten by the rain. The rain came down hard but it didn’t last long.  However it was enough to put half the track under water. The message came over the loud speaker that the Championship would now be held on Saturday night and Sunday.
