Saturday night was the Christmas special at Baypark where, in between races, the crowd was entertained with Santa flying into the stadium by helicopter. There were 17 sprintcars lined up which was a good field although it could have been bigger as I heard the promotor had to turn a few cars away as he wanted a reduced field in order to allow time for Santa etc.We had all heard about what had been done to the track surface over the last month with new clay being brought in then mixed with lime and cement to bind it. However when I got there and looked at the track, to be honest, it didn’t look much different. That was my opinion until we got out and raced on it. The track is very different now. Whether it’s good or bad, I’m not sure but it is now smooth and slick with very little drive in it even when it appears damp.
